Feeling Seen, and Seeing Others
Do you have spaces in your life in which you feel fully seen?
Not feeling seen - especially in contexts where we desire this type of connection - can feel deeply painful.
One of my earliest experiences after starting my business involved working with a team that was deeply fractured as a result of certain members of the team not feeling seen over a period of many years. The pain of not feeling seen had evolved into sadness, then anger, then deep resentment and contempt.
We can consider:
What are the spaces in which we feel deeply seen?
If they don't exist, what can it look like to either find, or create these types of spaces?
What are the small things we can do throughout our days, or our weeks, to fully see the people around us?
Who are our ‘heads down’ team members who don’t make a splash and don’t make a fuss and don’t cause a stir, who are creating quiet impact, who we might not be regularly ‘seeing,’ in the same way that we are seeing our louder, more ‘visible’ team members? What can it look like to pause and check in with these team members?
